Oil and gas production, geothermal energy and many forms of mineral extraction and processing can produce Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) as an unwanted by-product. Build-up of NORM on equipment such as oil well tubulars and down-hole jewellery, process plant pipes and valves can lead to unacceptable radiation doses to operating or maintenance personnel. The equipment needs to be cleaned and either returned to service or scrapped.
Cleanstream provides a fast and efficient NORM cleaning service from its facility at Ter Apel in the Netherlands. We will receive and decontaminate your equipment then either return the clean equipment to you or scrap it through one of our trusted metals recycling partners as you wish.
By using innovative cleaning methods, Cleanstream safely removes natural radioactive contamination from equipment, items and tubulars originating from, for example, the oil, gas and geothermal industries. These environmentally-sound cleaning methods comply with Dutch NORM regulations and are not harmful to people and animals, producing residues which are designated as Low Specific Activity. Our own radiation experts (qualified to Radiation Protection Expert (RPE) and Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) levels) always supervise the decontamination and authorise the final release of the clean product for re-use or recycling.
